Yes, makes you think and you then answer your own questions. On a personal note I found it very beneficial.

I'd say yes because we all need someone to talk to from time to time. While some people are happy to talk to friends or family, others find it easier to talk to someone they don't know

Yes. It's good to get things off your chest. In a way, we all have experienced this....when we talk to our friends about our daily problems etc and they give us advice. Some things our friends can't help us with as they may be too close to a situation so, like Ed said, talking through things with a stranger gives you an unbiased view.

It does help, but like any profession, there are good counsellors and average ones...mephisto is spot on, you have to be open to it or it will not work

It works if you want it too! You have to be ready and want to receive it, otherwise it doesn't help!

We all need to talk to someone about the things that trouble us or get on top of us, so why not talk to someone who is a professional in a certain field - so yes, I guess I do believe in councelling. And even if we don't think we need to talk or seek advice - often others looking from the outside can see that this is what is needed. If you need some councelling Jemma, my door is always open x
